In the previous video “Teach Grandma To Blog” I taught you the best registrar to buy sites from as well as the best web host provider to use. I also showed you how to quickly install WordPress.
In this video I review the steps to install WordPress and then I explain how to login to WordPress and make your first post on your new WordPress website. Once you have setup your Hostgator.com account you will receive an email from them with your login credentials for your site. The login credentials are to gain access to the back end of your site ,which is the interface to make changes known as CPanel. Every web host is different but if you did purchase your hosting from Hostgator then your cpanel login path will be www.yourwebsite.com:2083. Remember the special character is a : not a ;.
From there you click on the WordPress Quick install link on the left side of Cpanel. If you did not choose to purchase with Hostgator then you may not have that quick install feature. I suggest you google how to install WordPress. You will need to complete many more steps and some are technical. Which is another reason to buy your hosting from hostgator.com because installing the WordPress software can become a headache for many.
Once you have clicked on the WordPress link on the left side of CPanel then click continue on the next page, you will be at the WordPress Interface. Here you need to enter your information in the fields as seen in the picture. Click Install Now and your website is up and has content.
At this point you will want to browse to your website and test and make sure it’s working. In order to login to your WordPress interface you will need to type this into the browser. yourwebsitename.com/wp-admin. Side note, if you named your blog websitename.com/blog-name during the install of WordPress then you will actually need to type yourwebsitename.com/blog-name/wp-admin in order to login.
Now use the credentials provided in the email you received from WordPress using the email address you provided during install and copy and paste the password in. Now you are logged into your WordPress blog. From the dashboard on the left you click on post then add new and begin writing your first post. You are now an official blogger.
Congratulations to you from Help Via Video.
